In 2011, Benjamin John Power (Fuck Buttons) released his debut solo album as Blanck Mass on Rock Action Records. The vinyl, which sold out shortly after its release, has been nearly impossible to find since. Nine years later, Sacred Bones Records is pleased to re-release the album. Blanck Mass is Benjamin John Power, a young musician fascinated by Carl Sagan, Ennio Morricone, and the infinity of nature, both universal and personal. His eponymous debut album, a collection of tracks that explores cerebral hypoxia and the beautiful complexity of the natural world, features ten songs that were written, recorded, and self-produced at his home in London between summer and winter 2010. It’s an interstellar journey that defies categorization, revealing itself to be richer with each listen, offering more with every play. Out of sync with the nostalgia of current times, one feels that this record is still in suspense... like constantly traversing Escher's Ascending and Descending... like swimming towards a surface that will never be reached. This paradoxically claustrophobic yet liberating warmth is brought by the presence of an orchestral electric guitar, heavy and shimmering on the record, alongside manipulated field recordings, a gentle analog synth, heavy sub, and deep drones—a sound palette as vast and emotional as the world Blanck Mass sees before him.
