Behind the apparent duo is David Moore alone, a gifted American pianist and composer from Kansas. In order to bring his compositions to audiences beyond the academic classical scene, the young man formed Bing & Ruth in 2006, while still a student at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York.
After a few rather confidential releases, the band, oscillating between classical and ambient music in the style of Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds or Jóhann Jóhannsson, emerged from relative anonymity by signing with the refined Brooklyn label RVNG Intl. In two albums - Tomorrow Was The Golden Age (2014) and City Lake (2015) - Moore developed his orchestral vision with a large ensemble of instruments (clarinets, cellos, bass, lap-steel guitar, percussion, vocals) and established Bing & Ruth among the rising stars of ambient and neoclassical music. Now signed to the prestigious 4AD label, a new chapter is opening for the minimalist ensemble.
On No Home of the Mind, the composer returns to his first love: the piano. Composed on 17 pianos in North America and Europe during numerous recording sessions, tours and travels, this new album brings together all the peculiarities of each instrument. Above all, it offers a true musical experience carried by a pianist in perpetual search of exploration, subtly blending ambient sounds with a classical approach to the piano. A hybrid reverie of great beauty!
