Most of the songs are intimate sketches that were eventually re-recorded for his eponymous debut album and his seminal album, Time of the Last Persecution. This first volume includes poignant versions of some of his timeless works, such as \"I Hear You Calling\" and \"Pictures of Adolf Again\", and features equally powerful songs such as \"Arnold is a Simple Man\" and \"Love is the Tune\", which only appear in this collection. Bill Fay's influence can be felt in the work of many artists, so it seemed only fitting to celebrate it by bringing together some contemporary voices to perform his most timeless tracks. Thus, Kevin Morby and Steve Gunn respectively cover \"I Hear You Calling\" and \"Dust Filled Room\" on a 45.
