Black feminist punk trio Big Joanie has announced the release of their second album "Back Home", which follows the single "Happier Still" and the 2020 release of the single "Cranes in the Sky", a Solange Knowles cover released on Jack White's Third Man Records label. Recorded at Hermitage Works Studios in North London, "Back Home" was produced and mixed by Margo Broom (Goat Girl, Fat White Family) and features violin played by Charlotte Valentine of experimental art-rock project No Home. "Back Home" is a dramatic leap forward for the band; the group builds on its tight-knit lo-fi punk formula to produce a collage of fiery guitars, down-tempo dance punk, and melancholic chords that evoke the full depth of the band's expansive art-punk vision. The album's strength lies in the band's bold and varied new sound, blending gothic folk and grunge influences, inspired by both Hüsker Dü's melodic rock and Stevie Nicks' mystical sensibilities.
