Where'S My Towel + Industry Standard

Description

The Big Boys emerged in the late 1970s in the heart of Austin, Texas's punk scene. Led by Randy "Biscuit" Turner, a charismatic and provocative singer who sometimes dressed in a gown, the band — also comprising Tim Kerr on guitar, Chris Gates on bass, and Rey Washam on drums — disrupted hardcore conventions by injecting elements of funk, groove, and a heavy dose of irony. Their first album, released in 1981, marked a turning point. Far from the frantic tempos of traditional punk, the Big Boys slowed down the pace to explore a hybrid sound, somewhere between post-punk and skater rock. They quickly gained popularity through their presence on early Thrasher magazine compilations, becoming major figures in the 80s skate punk movement. On stage, the band distinguished themselves with contagious energy and a complete rejection of barriers between artists and audience. Participatory performances, unexpected covers (such as those of Kool & the Gang), and a taste for musical risk all demonstrated their free spirit. Their influence extended far beyond their discography: they inspired an entire generation to start bands, create, and dare.
