Decompose

Description

Bézier returns to Dark Entries with *Decompose*, an album of melancholic and ethereal music. Multi-instrumentalist Robert Yang has been a regular collaborator with the label for over a decade, offering tracks that explore the full stylistic spectrum from energetic disco to epic and lush ambient compositions. *Decompose*, Bézier's second album, is perhaps his most introspective work to date. The culmination of nearly a decade of work, it is a deep exploration of life, grief, and self-discovery. If one were to draw a tarot card for this album, it would be the Nine of Swords. The album pays tribute to the victims of the Pulse nightclub. This album honors the lives lost and the suffering endured due to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The eponymous track takes the form of a Buddhist chant, a synthetic and introspective meditation that builds in power until it explodes into John Carpenter-esque arpeggios halfway through. Tracks like "Egg," "Marionette," and "A Fading Citadel Atop Black Sand Bluffs" expand this sonic universe, where complex melodies and cavernous reverberation evoke feelings of claustrophobia and free fall in the listener. The album's more danceable tracks, such as "Codebreaking" and "Split a Path Towards the Thicket," are sparse and hypnotic techno tracks, heading towards deep introspection. *Decompose* recounts Yang's journey in search of inner peace, as an Asian American and a gay man. In this process, he learned to reintegrate forgotten parts of his identity to allow them to flourish fully. The artwork for *Decompose* was designed by Eloise Shir-Juen Leigh and features a photograph by Frankie Casillo showing Robert lying on a bed of stones in savasana posture, resembling an ascetic, evoking the monastic atmosphere of the album.
