Rag Bag is described as a patchwork of fabric pieces sewn together, with no intention of appearing symmetrical, polished, or finished. At the time of its assembly, Bernd Lhotzky recalls feeling a tingling sensation, as if he were setting off on a journey. Now, he expresses the desire to carry this rag bag in all weather, to fill it until it overflows, then to repair it again, to add elements to it, to modify it... and never to wash it! Bernd Lhotzky explains that ragtime was his original entry point into jazz, and what still fascinates him about this music today is its warm, life-affirming, and authentic character. He expresses his love for early jazz because it overflows with vitality and simple joy, evoking the laughter of children: open, boundless, without shame.
