Dangerous orbits

Description

Bérangère Maximin creates finely disturbing and instinctive electronic music. An exceptional sound sculptor, she begins in an academic environment with electroacoustic training and gradually incorporates the contributions of post-punk, dub, and sound arts into a hyper-personal style, a sensual and hypnotic production, with an immediate impact. BM arrives in the metropolis from her native country, the island of Réunion, at the age of fifteen. She studies with concrete music composer Denis Dufour (a member of the famous Ina-GRM and a student of Pierre Schaeffer) and releases her first album on Tzadik, the label of John Zorn. Influenced by composers such as François Bayle, Luc Ferrari, Eliane Radigue, as well as by the pioneers of glitch electronic music, Bérangère develops her own approach both in the studio and in concert, and draws on her experiences gained through collaborations with Fennesz, Rhys Chatham, Richard Pinhas, or Fred Frith (with whom she has performed as a duo). Dangerous Orbits is Bérangère Maximin's fourth album, and her first for the Made To Measure collection of Crammed Discs. Subtle voices, strange melodies, powerful sub-basses, spacious drones, oceanic vibrations, orchestral salvos circulate within it, between drama and lightness, with an obvious motor skill in a multidimensional, expansive, and primitive universe.
