IPHIGÉNIE

Description

The album Iphigenia is an experimental synth-pop concept album that explores the relationships between humanity and digital technologies, love and mourning, through the story of a human and a cat. While incorporating other musical influences (traditional music, sound design), this album expresses itself through its own unique stylistic approach. Iphigenia brings together ten love songs, each addressing various societal topics. The album draws its inspiration from Serge Gainsbourg's masterpiece, Histoire de Melody Nelson (1971). This approach is part of a research on media archaeology and a reflection on the ecology of attention. In this, inheriting from Donna Haraway, Benjamin Efrati presents the evolution of our relationships with non-human entities (animal or computer) as a corollary of global ecocide – the Chthulucene. In a way that is both critical and poetic, without moral judgment, but with a touch of impertinence, Benjamin Efrati describes the behavior of 21st-century humans through the album.
