Begging Dog is the indie punk project of Los Angeles-based musician Jeff Kleinman, also a member of the band Choir Boy. With DEMO 1, he delivers a raw and direct record, blending garage punk, lo-fi synths, and everyday lyricism. In 26 minutes, Kleinman paints a series of portraits of ordinary Americans – a union representative, a compulsive gambler, a mailman – while evoking past loves and fragments of urban life. Inspired by Bruce Springsteen, he favors simple and direct songwriting, marked by lucidity and tenderness. The title "no one loves a begging dog," borrowed from a friend, encapsulates the spirit of the project: the search for affection and meaning in an indifferent world. Behind the disillusioned tone, Kleinman captures a form of beauty in the solitude and ordinariness of Los Angeles, between disenchantment and emotional clarity. Recorded almost alone, DEMO 1 retains a spontaneous energy and a rough-draft charm, while on stage, the project transforms into a nervous and intense septet. Without seeking to give grandiloquent meaning to his tracks, Kleinman delivers a sincere record, driven by honesty, vulnerability, and attention to detail — a living and authentic testament to modern melancholy.
