Passionate about comic books and drawing, Beans enrolled in fine arts school. At the same time, he discovered the nascent spoken word scene and made a name for himself at the Rap meets Poetry gatherings in SoHo. It was there that the future members of AntiPop Consortium met. Within the group, he developed a staccato, fast, and distinctive rap style, with sophisticated lyrics—a blend of "braggadocio" and "fractured" narration typical of the new school. The combined talents of Anti-Pop Consortium members allowed them to become a cult group, alongside artists from Anticon and Def Jux. Anti-Pop gave Beans complete freedom to experiment and perfect his production style, citing Suicide's No Wave as a primary influence (alongside Sun Ra, Mantronix, Sonic Youth, Public Enemy, and Autechre). With High Priest, M.Sayyid, and Earl Blaize, Anti-Pop released four albums for renowned labels like Warp and Big Dada, and opened for Radiohead on the Amnesiac tour before disbanding in 2002. Beans refined his solo style. Arty and minimalist on *Tomorrow Right Now* in 2003. He returned in 2005, confident and "whole" on *Shock City Maverick*. In 2008, *Thorns*, his most personal work to date, allowed him to exorcise some demons. 2009 marked the reformation of Anti-Pop Consortium and the release of *Fluorescent Black*. Beans simultaneously worked on *End It All*, his fourth solo album released on Anticon in 2010. In March 2017, after a five-year absence, Beans returned to the forefront, not with one, but three albums: *Wolves of the World*, *Love Me Tonight*, and *HAAST*, as well as his first novel: *Die Tonight*. *Wolves of the World*, the first album of the trilogy, was entirely produced by the Canadian Toboggan. On this first installment, Beans surrounded himself with two underground rap heavyweights: Cities Aviv and Elucid. Beans confirmed his prolific return in 2018 with a vinyl edition of *Wolves of the World* on the Rennes label a night on canopy and *Nights Without Smiles*, a limited edition cassette EP on the Clermont-Ferrand label Hello.L.A. Beans offers his most ambitious solo work to date, reasserting his pioneering status while challenging contemporary listeners.
