This edition features B.B. King’s sensational “Blues in My Heart.” This album marked the penultimate of his twelve albums on Crown Records (a budget label founded in Los Angeles by Lester, Jules, Saul and Joe Bihari). It was first issued in 1962 and later reissued on Custom Records as “A Heart Full of Blues,” though the tunes were likely recorded in late 1961 as part of the stock-piling process prior to King’s departure for ABC Paramount. It is presented here in an arrangement that highlights his guitar mastery and concise solos. The great Plas Johnson provides complementary texture on tenor saxophone, while Maxwell Davis is featured on keyboards.
