After ‘Farm to Table’ (2022), his second album and first on 4AD, Bartees Strange returns with a third opus, ‘Horror,’ produced with Jack Antonoff (Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Bleachers). The world can be terrifying, especially for a young queer Black person in rural America. To confront his fears, Bartees Strange drew inspiration from stories told by his parents and the horror films he watched as a child to train himself to be strong. On ‘Horror,’ the American musician recounts the transformation of a damaged ego into an intimidating giant, embracing the sounds that accompanied him in his childhood, from Parliament-Funkadelic to Fleetwood Mac, as well as Teddy Pendergrass and Neil Young. The result is a tasty and original blend of hip-hop, country, indie rock, and house.
