THE ÎLE-DE-FRANCE AFRO BRASS BAND CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2021 WITH THE RELEASE OF A SECOND ALBUM MARKED BY ARTISTIC COLLABORATION. Since 2016 and the release of the album "AfroMassivSoundSystem" (FIP Selection and Citizen Jazz favorite), the 9 musicians have experienced intense moments of joy across France, from London clubs to the sweltering festivals of Cyprus and Malta. There were also long months of radio silence, musicians involved in other groups (Arat Kilo, Abdul & The Gang, Nola French Connection BB...) and questions about the meaning of a project involving French musicians performing an aesthetic inspired by African music. In 2018, the group accepted an invitation from the Fela Days Festival in Bamako for 10 days of musical encounters (Habib Koité, Ko Saba, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Abomey Afrobeat Orchestra), creation, and concerts that led to the recording of the 'Balamako' EP at Bogolan studio, with the griot Moriba Diabaté. From these unforgettable memories and rich exchanges with Malian and Beninese artists, a new dynamic was born. Balaphonics then returned to Studio Mastoïd in Pantin to concoct a spicy mixture with makossa, highlife, ethio-groove, or Congolese rumba flavors. All delicately seasoned with the pop and psychedelic influences of Maxime Lunel for a unique sound: SPICY BOOM BOOM. This album was made possible by the support of big-hearted musicians who fostered cultural exchange, transmission, and tolerance, such as Hilaire Penda (who was a guide during the three years separating the two albums), Manu Dibango, and Tiken Jah Fakoly, who hosted them at his Radio Libre venue in Bamako. All encouraged Balaphonics' original approach to revisiting African music and were captivated by the passion of their performances. Strengthened by this recognition, the group was able to reconnect, rejuvenate, and solidify the new team that leaves its sonic mark on this new album, including balafon player Ben Moroy, Brice Perda on sousaphone, and percussionist-singer Julien Cordin, who created the tracks I Bissimila and Onalala. To perfect the making of this album, guests met during concerts readily accepted Balaphonics' invitation: Kandy Guira (Les Amazones), Jupiter & Okwess, Franz Von (K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade), and Moriba Diabaté. SPICY BOOM BOOM: the deceptively naive title of an album finally in the box, with tracks nourished by artistic encounters and a band ready to break out of its shell. You will find both the comfort of studio playing (Demain dès L'Aube, I Bissimila, Balazurka) and the urgency of live performance (Kokanisa Nabo, Spicy Boom Boom) and the 2 tracks recorded in Bamako, to which the group attaches particular importance. "The French brass band Balaphonics releases a joyful second album of afrobeat and afro-jazz, with live energy propelled by a hellish rhythm section. Perfectly crafted compositions served by a joyful band of passionate musicians who are masters of volcanic groove, so vital in these dark times." --- FIP ---.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0898/4943/0360/files/3521381566253_ec69f3b8-39c4-405e-921b-ce638695b283.jpg?v=1760318119
