MADCALAIS (vinyl)

Description

BAASTA! the duo, now a 'trio' after a close encounter with George, a living ghetto blaster with an acidic personality and an oversized ego, is back with a second album titled 'MADCALAIS,' whose French lyrics will leave no one indifferent, as the themes addressed are deeply rooted in their time. A time that, according to François-Xavier (singer), lies between the society of lies and control of George Orwell's "1984" and the entertainment of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World." 'MADCALAIS,' a unique style originating from the Pas De Calais (62) where they come from, and a reference to Madchester, which emerged in the late 80s in Manchester, and whose influence on the band is undeniable. Probably because the stories of coal, gray skies, football, and warm beer are identical in the north of these two countries. The album opens with a disorganized street demonstrating under police threats and closes with a fraternal love song from the Marek stand at the Bollaert stadium to its club, RC Lens. Between these two manifestations, BAASTA! intelligently and sharply tackles themes such as post-truth, entertainment, political postures, contradictory injunctions, disappointment, social downgrading, denial, but also elegance, optimism, pride, arrogance, and panache... For the rest, Yoann's thunderous and melodic bass and George's rhythmic support, making his speakers scream, are at the forefront. The arpeggiators of keyboards and François-Xavier's captivating chants complete the emergence of this unique style that will now be defined as: 'MADCALAIS.' "Of an unstoppable post-punk energy." --- ROLLING STONE ---. "Beware of splashes" --- LIBÉRATION ---. "A bit like Sleaford Mods meets Bashung." --- LIBÉRATION ---. "True 'working-class heroes' standing like a Paul Weller during the Thatcher era, BAASTA! pulled off the feat of restoring rock's nobility and its power to embody reality in a brutal period." --- FRANCO FANS ---. "The bricks are identical, the idleness equally mocking, the lads' attitude just as swaggering. This is the working class France of the Hauts-de-France, but it could be Sheffield or Leeds. When they are not haunting the Marek stand at the Bollaert stadium in Lens, FX and YO, aka Arrogance and Panache, spit out pure, disheveled, bad-tempered, ill-mannered casual pop in their Fred Perrys with BAASTA!" --- Jean-Daniel BEAUVALLET ---. "Baasta!, an Arras-based electro duo without the fringe, punk without the dogs, and rock without the French air..." --- MUZZART ---.
