Formed in Gothenburg in 1990, At The Gates became one of the major bands of the Swedish death metal scene. Born from the ashes of Grotesque, the band quickly distinguished itself with a style blending technical brutality, complex melodies, and dark atmospheres. After several tours, the band signed with Peaceville Records and released its debut album, The Red In The Sky Is Ours, in 1992. Praised for its originality, notably thanks to the addition of violin, the album mixes extreme violence and sophisticated melodic arrangements, with standout tracks like « Kingdom Gone ». Considered today a classic of the genre, The Red In The Sky Is Ours remains an essential work of melodic death metal.
