Thorsteinson & Schumann
Description
Icelandic baritone Andri Björn Róbertson recorded Schumann's Liederkreise Op. 24 and Op. 39, as well as seven songs by his compatriot Árni Thorsteinson (1870-1962). 1840 is considered the year of song for Robert Schumann, who devoted himself almost exclusively to composing songs between 1840 and 1841. Both cycles Op. 24 and Op. 39 were composed and published in 1840. Árni Thorsteinson is probably the most beloved song composer in Iceland, and this program includes some of the country's most popular songs. Thorsteinson is also affectionately called the "Icelandic Schumann." In the early 1900s, he began composing songs for solo voice and choir set to lyrics by well-known Icelandic poets. His twelve songs published in 1907 are considered a national treasure. The energy and landscapes of Iceland had a primary influence on the making of this record. Escape into the wilderness, the surrounding mystery, and natural poetry are ingredients as important as the two soloists. That is why Iceland was chosen to host the recording sessions.Buy Thorsteinson & Schumann at the best price
