In his new recording, Emmanuel Pahud performs works for flute composed for a great monarch, King Frederick II of Prussia, known as Frederick the Great, who, through his love of music, changed the face of the musical world in Europe. In revolt against his father, who forbade him to play the flute in favor of military training, he resisted and secretly took music lessons. He believed that his father's conception of power was outdated and intended to become an enlightened, philosophical, and literate sovereign. A modern man in a world undergoing transformation. This is what Emmanuel Pahud wanted to capture in this recording: the different influences that reigned at the Prussian Court, from J.S. Bach bringing the baroque to its peak, to his son Carl Philipp Emanuel working with the young king on new sounds.
