Description

This selection of works — and the relationships that the piccolo establishes with its partners during these small group encounters — is anything but simple. Sometimes, the instruments merely test the waters; other times, they move to imitation, challenge, or even confrontation. Most often, they do all of this at once, in constantly changing proportions. Throughout the program, the piccolo reveals an astonishing diversity of identities: it carries a melodic weight, but can just as easily become pointillist, squeak like a grain of sand in a mechanism, crackle with energy, burst forth with striking force, or disrupt the flow of melody and rhythm.
