Considered one of the greatest conductors of his time, Bruno Walter (Berlin 1876 - Beverly Hills 1962) dedicated himself primarily to the German and Austrian repertoire: a great Mozartian, an indefatigable disciple and defender of Mahler, he also conducted with great success Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, and Wagner. Assistant to Mahler at the Vienna Opera, their friendship was fundamental for Bruno Walter, who literally idolized his illustrious elder. This 9CD box set, recorded largely with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, highlights Mozart and Mahler, and includes a new 60-minute audio documentary, featuring several moving testimonies from musicians from the London and New York orchestras who played under Walter's direction.
