Soul Jazz Records are reissuing their Arthur Russell retrospective (the first edition, released 8 years ago, sells for several hundred dollars on eBay!). Since that initial release, 'The World of Arthur Russell,' the artist has enjoyed a renewed wave of media and public interest, including a film about his life ('A Portrait of Arthur Russell') and an album of unreleased songs ('Love Is Overtaking Me'). He is now considered one of the great 20th-century songwriters. Arthur Russell holds a unique place in Dance Music history. Admired by his peers, including Philip Glass and Todd Terry, for his solo work and for forming the groups Dinosaur L and Loose Joints in the 80s and co-founding the Sleeping Bag Records label (Mantronix, Larry Levan, Patrick Adams, EPMD, Joyce Sims, Todd Terry, etc.). He died of AIDS in 1992, leaving behind a unique body of work spanning Dance Music and the Avant-Garde. This compilation brings together his classics and rare tracks, accompanied by detailed liner notes. The LP version is a limited edition triple audiophile vinyl.
