Sing Me A Song

Description

"Sing me song" brings together personalities that represent various cultural facets of the Persian diaspora. It is a vocal journey through three colors of male voices, ranging from traditional to contemporary, and four female voices, moving from spoken to sung, representing four different generations of Iranian women, all shaped by their own time and a restrained emotion; as if it had been filtered through a moucharabieh, a type of Eastern "jalousie." The two intertwined works "the freedom of Vashti and the marriage of Esther" nod to the epic work of the 16th-century Judeo-Persian poet Shahin Shirazi, an instrumental piece with a frenetic rhythm blending hard bop, the 70s jazz-rock of Miles, and klezmer melodies. Persian Jazz is polymorphic, with Persian tradition being omnipresent, supported by improvisation and a polyrhythm with motifs shifting from one piece to another.
