"Experiencing Vibrations with Buxtehude" marks the third album by organist Arnaud Van de Cauter for the Paraty label. Dieterich Buxtehude (1637-1707), a major figure of the North German organ school and a source of inspiration for J.S. Bach, deploys in his preludes, chorales and toccatas a language rich in contrasts, affects and musical rhetoric. The monumental organ of St. Ludgeri Church in Norden, a masterpiece by builder Arp Schnitger built in 1688, offers an ideal setting for this music: its 46 stops spread over several sound levels and its modified meantone temperament reveal all the color, polyphonic clarity and expressive power of Buxtehude's writing.
