Schubert: Arpeggione & 'Der Tod und Das Mädchen'

Description

New adaptation of the Arpeggione by Luigi Piovano.Recently appointed principal conductor of the string orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Luigi Piovano has crafted a choice program for their first album. He himself created an adaptation of Franz Schubert's famous "Arpeggione" Sonata, brilliantly taking on the role of soloist on a 5-string violoncello piccolo to get as close as possible to the arpeggione and thus allow the execution of the original octaves. The presence of the orchestra gives a new dimension to the work and seems so natural that one begins to doubt it was ever otherwise. The quartet "Death and the Maiden" is, for its part, performed in Gustav Mahler's 1896 version. The strength of the orchestral ensemble is even more overflowing than the quartet, even devastating! The addition of the double bass to the musical canvas gives the work greater depth and greater dramaturgy, darkening the colors and carrying feelings and emotion to the heavens.
