To say that The Apartments has a special relationship with the French audience would be an understatement. In 2015, Peter Milton Walsh, the pen and voice of the Australian group, ended an 18-year wait by unveiling No Song, No Spell, No Madrigal on the Microcultures label. An album of mourning and farewell, heartbreaking in many ways, imbued above all with an ineffable beauty and modesty. The recording of In and Out of the Light, The Apartments' seventh studio album, began in Sydney in mid-2019, where Peter Milton Walsh and Eliot Fish (bass) reside, and was completed early in the year, just days before the lockdown began in Australia. In the meantime, various instrumental pieces were recorded in France (Natasha Penot and Antoine Chaperon) or in London (Nick Allum), ultimately joining the compositions. Throughout these 8 tracks, we accompany characters who, following a loss or a sudden change, set out in search of new paths and new hopes. "They drove on through the fading light. I'll never leave you, that's what I said, I'll never leave you," sings Peter Milton Walsh on the final track of this new album. Everything is there. Eternal melancholy, eternal elegance.
