Antibalas emerged in the late 1990s as a blazing, hard-hitting afrobeat ensemble, driven by brass, bass, and drums, molded in the style of Fela Kuti, politically astute and socially conscious. Their live concerts have been incendiary events where the rhythm and sweat of completely wild audience members shaking their hips shared something deeper and broader than the music itself. Security is Antibalas's fourth album. It was co-produced by the band with John McEntire of Tortoise. The band, whose name means "bulletproof" in Spanish, has indeed proven that it possesses the strength not only to survive but also to thrive by employing a musical arsenal that has become known worldwide.
