His relationship with German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter is therefore a major exception: she became his dedicated partner for recording the major violin concertos for over 10 years.The story of ANNE-SOPHIE MUTTER's discovery by HERBERT VON KARAJAN has become legendary. In 1976, when she was only 13, she auditioned for the famous conductor. The maestro listened to her and literally fell for this young virtuoso. He invited her to play in Salzburg under his direction the following year.From then until Karajan's death in 1989, ANNE-SOPHIE MUTTER was the only violinist to perform with him, both in concert and on record. This 5-CD box set brings together all the concertos they recorded together for Deutsche Grammophon, from 1978 to 1988. A testament to a unique artistic collaboration.
