Although Anne Phillips (born 1935) had a successful career in music, *Born to Be Blue* (1959) was the only solo jazz album she recorded in her prime. She would later become one of the most respected and sought-after session vocalists, singing on countless recording sessions. She also wrote, arranged, and produced numerous commercials, but did not record another solo vocal album until 2001! *Born to Be Blue* showcases Phillips alongside brilliant jazz musicians such as Mundell Lowe, Doc Severinsen, Milt Hinton, and Osie Johnson.
