The Kunsthaus Bregenz presents Wish You Were Gay, a major exhibition by Anne Imhof. Deeply personal, it brings together several new series of works that extend the central themes of her practice: finitude, reality and artifice, chance and destiny, absence and presence—all against a backdrop of post-apocalyptic isolation. The exhibition includes sculptures, paintings, sound installations, and six new videos, in which Imhof revisits archives filmed between 2001 and 2003, a pivotal period in her life and practice. These images, made with the first handheld digital cameras, bear witness to a search for identity and expression through the body, voice, and music, in collaboration with her friends, lovers, and artistic partners. Oscillating between improvisation and repetition, these works convey an urgent and physical energy, fueled by performance and gesture. Two decades later, Imhof weaves these foundational elements into a body of work where the body becomes the center of artistic language, between tension, immobility, and movement.
