Anna Netrebko opens the year 2015 with an exciting opera, recorded during her tour in 2012. She fervently embodies Iolanta (Yolanthe), the title role, which is certainly one of the most enigmatic figures in Tchaikovsky's opera. The plot takes place in Provence in the 15th century where King René reigns, whose daughter Iolanta is blind. Faith and love will help her regain her sight and acquire wisdom. This album marks a new collaboration between Anna Netrebko and the French conductor Emmanuel Villaume (currently the Music Director of the Dallas Opera, with whom she recorded the album "Souvenirs"). Anna Netrebko will portray Iolanta at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in early 2015, then in concert version with Emmanuel Villaume conducting at the Monte-Carlo Opera on June 21, 2015.
