The meteoric career of mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili begins with Bizet's Carmen, as she auditions at La Scala in Milan for the minor role of "Mercedes" in the production directed by Daniel Barenboim. This is to be given as the opening of the 2009 season. But she is immediately chosen by the artistic management and by Daniel Barenboim himself to sing the title role of "Carmen" alongside Jonas Kaufmann... so much so that her artistic, musical, and physical personality wins the approval of all! She will perform this role more than 300 times! And convince the entire lyrical world in impressive unanimity! Then, all the major mezzo roles will become familiar to her, such as Amneris (Aida), Azucena (Il Trovatore), Dalila (Samson and Dalila) before Eboli (Don Carlo) where she currently triumphs all over the world. The greatest lyrical stages have already welcomed her, from New York at the Metropolitan Opera to Bastille (Paris), the Deutsche Oper (Berlin), and Covent Garden in London. The year 2018 is no exception with a particularly rich schedule, which will lead her to perform abundantly, notably in Il Trovatore by Verdi at the Opéra Bastille in June and July, as well as in Samson and Dalila by Saint-Saëns in November at the Opéra de Monte Carlo. In Spring 2019, she will reprise her favorite role of "Carmen" at the Opéra Bastille in Paris.
