When, in 2009, the virtuosic guitarist Tobin Abasi released his first album under the name of Animals As Leaders, it was unthinkable that an album mixing progressive metal, jazz, electronic sounds, and ambient would find a wide audience. This was the case, and two years later, the band's second album drove the point home and earned Animals As Leaders a prominent place in the scene. Steve Vai even stated that the band was "the future of guitar playing, both inventive and virtuosic." 2014 saw the release of the band's third album with two new members whose technique pushes the band's music towards new musical horizons. Still instrumental, the music of 'The Joy Of Motion' is of perfect mastery between metal riffs, killer solos, ambient passages, and jazz signatures.
