Angelo De Augustine returns with *Angel in Plainclothes*, his fifth album and arguably his most accomplished to date: a deeply personal work that chronicles his long journey of healing and rebirth. The album highlights De Augustine's powerful melodies and poignant lyrics, particularly through tracks like the haunting elegy "Empty Shell," the hopeful "Spirit of the Unknown," and the psychedelic country tune "Mirror Mirror." The themes explored delve into the fragility of life, second chances, and rebuilding after an undiagnosed illness forced him to relearn everyday actions. Written, recorded, arranged, produced, and mixed by the artist in his A Secret Place studio in Southern California, this album marks his major comeback after years of collaborations. Featured artists include string arranger Oliver Hill (Kevin Morby, Helado Negro), harpist Leng Bian, backing vocalist and percussionist Wendy Fraser, producer Thomas Bartlett (who produced his album *Tomb*, as well as St. Vincent and Bebel Gilberto), and co-producer Jonathan Wilson (Angel Olsen, Father John Misty) on the track "The Cure." The result is a powerful message of hope.
