Description

Fifth album from the soul collective Angels of Libra. The collective presents their most accomplished work to date: twelve warm tracks with an analog aesthetic, somewhere between Curtis Mayfield and Ennio Morricone, enriched with a contemporary approach mixing soul and cinematic pop. Produced by Dennis Rux, Road to Mandalay combines a vintage aesthetic with a resolutely modern songwriting. Nathan Johnston once again provides lead vocals on ten tracks, while neo-soul artist Sarife shines on the 60s-inspired track "Baby When You Hold Me". Together, they perform the final track "This Boy". Thematically, the album is inspired by Rudyard Kipling's poem Mandalay and unfolds as a journey through loss, self-doubt, and hope. A highly cinematic soul album for fans of Jungle, Durand Jones & The Indications, combined with modern retro sounds.
