Anemone is the project of Montreal-based Chloé Soldevilla. Raised in classical music and jazz circles, Soldevilla discovered rock quite late, at the end of high school. She then began listening to bands like Neu! and Can and rebelling against her overly strict musical upbringing. Working as a photographer and director, she dove headfirst into the Californian psychedelic scene and French punk.
A few years later, back in Montreal, she explored the local DIY scene in search of musicians who shared her vision. She met Zachary Irving, Miles Dupire-Gagnon, Gabriel Lambert, and Samuel Gemme: this was the beginning of Anemone. Braving the freezing Canadian winter and budget problems, the band recorded an EP "Baby Only You and I" as well as their first album "Beat My Distance," both mixed analogically.
Beat My Distance is a psychedelic dream, exuberantly alternating between genres and moods. Between swirling shoegaze guitars and krautrock rhythms, Soldevilla’s voice acts as an anchor, powerful and self-assured. The album has an experimental side that doesn't detract from the quality of the melodies and hooks. It's music that burns within you: impossible to ignore.
