{"product_id":"andris-nelsons_under-stalins-shadow_2016_uni","title":"Under Stalin's shadow","description":"Here is the second part of the collaboration of the young conductor Andris Nelsons with the Boston Symphony Orchestra around the project titled Shostakovich Under Stalin's Shadow. Nelsons, one of the most exciting conductors of our time, has been conducting the BSO since the 2014-2015 season and will lead the ensemble at least until 2021-2022, aiming to record a complete cycle of Shostakovich's works with the orchestra for Deutsche Grammophon. This double album presents an illustration of the hardships endured by Shostakovich following historical events as well as the political pressures he faced, alternately praised and reviled by the Party, accused of writing music that went against communist ideals. The program opens with the eclectic yet accessible 5th Symphony, written before the war, which temporarily ensured his rehabilitation and in which Shostakovich seems to yield to political pressures. Next is the beautiful and dark 8th, written during the war, which again led to his disgrace. Instead of giving the Party a triumphant 9th Symphony post-war, he composed a light work inspired by Haydn, which would not be performed until after Stalin's death. The album concludes with selected excerpts from Hamlet, probably Shostakovich's most accomplished stage music.","brand":"Andris Nelsons","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57726345445720,"sku":null,"price":20160527.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/andris-nelsons_under-stalins-shadow_2016_uni","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
