Description

Andreas Ottensamer presents on his first album with Decca Classics a fabulous selection of 18th-century works from the clarinet repertoire of the Mannheim school. A European melting pot of revolutionary musicians who profoundly marked their time by developing new colors, the Mannheim school is the origin of the modern orchestra as we know it today. The Mannheim orchestra was indeed the first to incorporate the clarinet into its formation, and it was in Mannheim that Mozart heard the instrument for the first time. The disc offers works by J. and C.P. Stamitz, Mozart, and Danzi, performed with the Kammerakademie orchestra of Potsdam. Ottensamer is joined by two of his illustrious colleagues from the Berliner Philharmoniker, oboist Albrecht Mayer and flutist Emmanuel Pahud. A true manifesto of a time of significant and decisive musical upheavals explored through an instrument democratized during this period of change, the album, titled NEW ERA, is anticipated as one of the major releases of the year.
