Weather Systems is Anathema's ninth studio album. Singer and guitarist Daniel Cavanagh describes the album in these terms: "We feel like we're at the peak of our creativity right now, and this album reflects that. Everything from the production to the songwriting and performances is a step above our last album." He continues: "This is not background music for parties. The music is written to deeply move the listener, to elevate them or take them to the coldest depths of their soul." Weather Systems was recorded in Liverpool, North Wales and Oslo, each location being significant for Anathema. The record was produced and mixed by five-time Norwegian Grammy nominee Christer-André Cederberg (Animal Alpha, In the Woods...), whom Daniel describes as "a revelation." His calm and brilliance helped create the greatest inter-band chemistry Anathema has experienced in their career."
