Ananda Shankar

Description

Ananda Shankar, nephew of Ravi Shankar, is a musician from the Bengal province of India and is famous for his fusion of Western and Eastern music. His self-titled debut album, released in 1970, is considered one of the first rock albums on the Indian scene. Most of his compositions are entirely instrumental and incorporate sitar as well as Moog synthesizers, illustrating this clash of cultures. This album also features the explosive cover of the Rolling Stones' track "Jumpin' Jack Flash," which became a real club hit the year of its release. The album is considered a must-have by many connoisseurs, as its influence on world fusion music was undeniable.
