Amnesia Scanner's third album, STROBE.RIP, is a collaboration with artist and musician Freeka Tet. Released by PAN records, STROBE.RIP is part of a larger series of live performances, installations, videos, and physical products created by the group. Like Amnesia Scanner, Freeka Tet draws on online vernacular and techno-magic to create satirical and unsettling works — artificially augmented and highly elaborated sounds, textures, images, and ideas that translate memes and code into a more human and affective language. Stemming from the collaborative practice established on STROBE.RIP, Amnesia Scanner and Freeka Tet then deliver a double album project that explores and explodes the norms of musical production, songwriting, and sound aesthetics. HOAX is not a simultaneous album and remix, but rather a singular experience unfolding as two mirrored, mutually reinforcing (or perhaps deconstructing) discs. The two mirrored discs are meant to be unlocked together: listening to the drone-ification opens up previously hidden patterns and movements, the newly trained ear will delve deeper into the layers of HOAX's subliminal encoding, leaving the listener reprogrammed. Triple vinyl.
