On June 12, 2026, Ambrose Akinmusire and Mary Halvorson will unite on the album Slo-Mo Neon Luminate Hoverings, to be released on Nonesuch Records. This summit meeting between the trumpeter and the guitarist offers eight original compositions (four written by each musician) as well as a track born from their direct collaboration. The track "Soundcheck," available today, offers a first glimpse of this long-standing chemistry. Although their musical exchanges date back to 2009, in the intimacy of a Brooklyn apartment, it was in January 2025 that the duo realized this repertoire. After a single rehearsal followed by a concert at the New York club The Stone, the two artists immediately headed to Sear Sound studio to capture, the very next day, the energy and spontaneity of their dialogue.
