Dutchman Jacco Gardner and his band celebrate the Anatolian rock of the 70s, with a groove that could wake the dead. They were the revelation of the Trans Musicales de Rennes 2017. One might think this Turkish-speaking group hails from Istanbul. In fact, it was founded in Amsterdam in late 2016 by Dutch bassist Jasper Verhulst – who usually plays with the retro-futurist Jacco Gardner – who fell in love with the golden age (altin gün, in Turkish) of the Anatolian rock scene. Their music may seem kitschy, but it reveals a jubilant exoticism. Jasper Verhulst and his band take the lyrics of the heavyweights of Anatolian rock from the late 60s and early 70s literally, while infusing their covers with harmonies and energy borrowed from today's pop.
