For 35 years, they have been spreading the music of their native County Donegal across the international stage. Their new album, aptly titled DONEGAL, pays homage to the rich musical heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture of County Donegal. The authenticity and charm of their music transport listeners to a rural Ireland of yesteryear, while weaving a link between past and present. The group is composed of co-founder, singer and fiddler Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh; new recruit Clare Friel, on vocals and fiddle; accordionist Martin Tourish; guitarists Dáithí Sproule and Mark Kelly; and Ciarán Curran on bouzouki and mandolin. With Jim Higgins (percussion), Steve Cooney (bass) and Graham Henderson (keyboards). Recorded by Manus Lunny at Seafront Studio in County Donegal, Ireland. DONEGAL captures the very essence of Irish traditional music from the region that has inspired Altan since the band's formation and further solidifies Altan's legacy as one of Ireland's greatest cultural treasures.
