The Allah-Las have always been fascinated by the carefree and sparkling lifestyle of their city, Los Angeles. After three albums exploring every corner, from desert to ocean, and carrying this Californian spirit to stages around the world, they couldn't help but look through the other side of the telescope. On their fourth album, Matt Correia (drums), Spencer Dunham (Dunham), Miles Michaud (guitar), and Pedrum Siadatian (guitar) broaden their horizons. “We’ve traveled a lot these past few years and I think that has had an effect, influencing the greater diversity of songs on this album,” explains Matt Correia, “LAHS for me is like a soundtrack to the past five years. A kind of sonic postcard for anyone who wants to listen.” This idea is also reflected in the album's artwork—a collection of vintage stamps and postcards—created by Matt Correia & Robbie Simon. Simply titled LAHS (a reference to a recurring misspelling of the band's name), this new album sees the band at the height of its powers. Longtime fans will recognize their skillful fusion of melodies and atmospheres; but on a grander scale, we see them venturing into new territories. Their evolution, not only as songwriters but as performers, arrangers, and producers, is clearly audible, even extending to singing in Portuguese and Spanish. The album was primarily produced by the band in their own Los Angeles studio, giving them the time and space to experiment with new sounds. Producer and engineer Jarvis Taveniere (Woods) worked on the album's finishing touches. The result is a sound that is both clean and precise while retaining the warmth and atmosphere for which the band is known. The wanderlust that fuels these thirteen tracks continues to push the band across new borders, collecting and gathering everything they find, returning full of inspiration. With LAHS, we don't just discover the memories they've brought back to us; it's an invitation to go with them.
