Alice Clark
Description
In terms of legend, very few albums rival Alice Clark's album recorded for Mainstream Records. This record - the only one she ever made - went unnoticed upon its release in 1972, but over time became one of the most sought-after albums on the international soul-jazz scene, ever since London DJs unearthed this gem in the late 80s. The album is now considered one of the best soul albums ever released. Recorded "live" in two days at Record Plant studios in New York, the album was produced by legendary jazz producer Bob Shad and arranged by veteran jazzman Ernie Wilkins, accompanied by the best musicians of the era in a big band formation. The music is a superb blend of jazz and soul delivered by the singer's superb voice, featuring two rare groove classics, "Don't You Care" and "Never Did I Stop Loving You," as well as a selection of songs magnificently performed by Clark. Very little is known about Alice Clark and this cult album, except that she only recorded one album during her short career and that she passed away in the early 2000s.
