Mr Bongo reissues "Alfredo", the 1979 classic by Cuban violinist Alfredo De La Fe, an emblematic figure of Latin music. Based between New York and Colombia, Alfredo collaborated with legends such as Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colon and Roberto Roena, as well as disco and soul icons like Sylvester and Aquarian Dream. His debut album offers two distinct facets: a side A brimming with Latin dancefloor rhythms where he innovatively integrates the violin as a central element of his compositions, thus redefining the contours of Latin music. It is on side B that the album surprises the most, notably with Hot To Trot, a track fusing Latin groove, disco-funk and effervescent Brazilian percussion. This track became a dancefloor staple, adopted by legendary New York DJ Larry Levan and associated with the famous Paradise Garage club. Over the years, it has been celebrated by figures like Louie Vega, Dave Lee and Danny Krivit, remaining a timeless DJ favorite.
