An event 15 years in the making! Much more than an audiobook, this is a genuine original soundtrack composed by Alain Damasio & Yan Péchin to accompany the release of the long-awaited novel, "Les Furtifs"!A high-flying & original co-production between the Jarring Effects Label and La Volte publishers!Les furtifs is Alain Damasio's next science-fiction novel, bordering on the fantastic-marvellous, featuring living creatures made "of flesh and sounds" that live among us, in the blind spot of our fields of vision. It is a novel that gives fundamental primacy to sound and music, since the "furtifs" are born and develop around a shiver, that is to say a vibratory melody, of great vitality, around which they build themselves, metabolize the nearby environment and constantly metamorphose. To extend the novel with an album, to redeploy its literary universe through voice, to bring it to music, was therefore an obvious choice contained within the very theme of the book. In addition to developing coherent and powerful imaginations, Alain Damasio's writing has always been extremely physical. It favours a very sonic approach to language, which he bases on multiple plays of assonance and consonance, treating phonemes as colours, materials, textures, and relying on strong, motor syntaxes, with very rhythmic periods, specific to each character in the novel. The resulting texts have a marked musical dimension that the voice allows to fully restore.Yan Péchin, for his part, has worked with the biggest names in the French scene (Bashung, Miossec, Rachid Taha, Brigitte Fontaine, Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine...) and his instinct has almost always led him to "lyric" singers, for whom the text and its phrasing are crucial. He accompanies Brigitte Fontaine, notably, in concerts where his prodigious improvisation skills match the movements of the voice and words and also manage to detach themselves from them, to highlight them as much as to contrast them, while developing his own powers. His long association with Bashung made him sensitive to the power of demanding and finely crafted texts and the universes they unleash. After having had the chance to play together in live settings, the desire to create a kind of "universe-album" around the "universe-book" that is "Les Furtifs" emerged. A universe-album that restores, throughout its tracks, both the narrative dimension of the novel (key scenes, dramatic tensions such as Le cube, Sahar et Lorca, Réalité Ultime) and its imaginary and poetic dimension (Vivre ivre, Transfusion, Overmars) without overlooking the political values conveyed by the book, notably its vitalism and radicality (Entrer dans la couleur, Mantract).Musically, Yan Péchin carries the entire album from beginning to end. He architects the pieces, composes the structure, chooses the textures, melodies, harmonies, relying on a dozen guitars (acoustic, classical, electric, dobro, bass...) which are all personalities, and from which he extracts, through his pedal play, his magical effects rack, possibilities so extensive that he can make his strings sound like an organ, a violin, a drone, a pad, a beat, directly and live. His strength lies as much in his talent as a melodist, as in his structural sense and his ability to extract from his guitars a rather breathtaking range of living, material, noisy, strident, warm and soft, caressing and aggressive, sandy, sizzling or liquid sounds, so that each scene that Alain's text tries to unfold, he finds the physical correspondence first, through his sounds, even before putting them to music.Working behind closed doors as a duo, with only Alain's voice to carry the texts, the risk was to somewhat close off the album. We therefore wanted to call upon a high-flying drummer, Arnaud Dieterlin, very close to Yan, to support the rhythmic motoricity of the pieces and to open them up with unstructured, free drumming. For the voice, the counterpoint of a very lyrical female voice, that of Mood, seemed ideal to counterbalance his rather round and warm timbre. Through this necessarily delicate, sometimes beautifully chaotic alchemy, and under the imperious artistic direction of Yan Péchin, who ensures the complete coherence of the album from creation to mixing, the duo offers an original, inhabited and powerful work!
