COLORED REISSUES OF THE US RAPPER'S 2ND ALBUM. In 2000, Aesop Rock released his first official album, 'Float', after a continuous ascent in the underground thanks to two previous projects, 'Music For Earthworms' (1997) and 'Appleseed' (1999). While all of Aesop's subsequent albums have captured his evolution as a producer and author, 'Float' was undeniably exceptional in itself. There was something remarkable about a 20-track album that never had any singles. Each track exists only to be part of the album's experience. The album's production is almost evenly split between Aesop Rock and long-time collaborator and good friend Blockhead, with a contribution from Omega One on the reggae-infused "Skip Town." The album's production seems to have one common goal: to immediately capture the desired mood, drawing in the listener and keeping them attentive and receptive to the carefully crafted lyricism that accompanies it. Lyrically, Aesop Rock is clearly the star of the album, but the few strategically placed guests on the album are the result of great foresight or inevitable synergy — perhaps both — as Slug (Atmosphere), Vast Aire (Cannibal Ox), and DoseOne were all in the midst of landmark moments in their own careers around the same time they appeared on Float. As for Aesop, with this album, he delves into a complex writing style, both visually descriptive and emotionally captivating, which has only intensified and diversified over time. His writing seems to settle in with urgency, as if he is well aware that the journey and the challenges, as well as the triumphs, he will have to face are arduous and numerous. Twenty years after its debut, 'Float' is a time capsule of an artist on the verge of fully exploiting his creative freedom, while the industry was simultaneously in flux, which remains a powerful statement in itself, decades later. To celebrate this event, Rhymesayers is reissuing 'Float', long out of print, on double vinyl, available in three different limited edition colors!
