Combining recordings from 1992 and 2014 (the latter made during the filming of ERIK KOTO’s film, The Song Collector), this compilation pays tribute to MORUP NAMGYAL, presenter of Leh's only existing radio station in Little Tibet. This collector had recorded and archived over a thousand Tibetan songs and instrumentals during almost thirty years of dedicated service to All India Radio when, in 2002, a tragic fire reduced almost all of his sound archives to ashes. Fortunately, some tapes escaped the flames. At the frantic pace at which globalization is expanding, climbing even the most remote Himalayan plateaus, it is safe to assume that these recordings will soon bear witness to a time and culture that will be forever lost.
