Led by DAVID GEDGE, THE WEDDING PRESENT is a post-punk band, in the vein of THE FALL or GANG OF FOUR, originally from Leeds and still active today. Their first album from 1987 was, as we recall, named after the Northern Irish footballer GEORGE BEST. GeorgeBest 30 is a new recording of a cult album (also marking its 30th anniversary), with STEVE ALBINI as producer, and hastily re-recorded at the same time as the album El Ray in 2008. With two decades of experience and a more assertive sound (the original electronic percussion has been replaced by GRAEME RAMSAY's dynamic drumming, the twelve-string guitars now shine with a thousand and one overtones, not to mention ANDREW SCHEPS' excellent mix), the twelve original songs are given a new lease of life and are all worth rediscovering.
